Metropolitan Recordings

Metropolitan Recordings stands for exclusive House-, Tech House- und Deep House- Releases. We interviewed the two producers and DJs who founded the label back in 2010. Read the interview with Patrizio and Danny and find out more about this successful record label.

When and how was Metropolitan Recordings founded?

Metropolitan Recordings is a project of Patrizio Mattei and Danny Omich (Daniele Omicciolo) and was founded in 2010.

Do social media play an important role in promoting your music?

Yes, of course they do! For example, we promote our music on our Facebook page by live streaming our events, but we are also promoting our artists choosing the right audience (Nation, City, Club, and Genre).

How does A&R work at Metropolitan Recordings?

Patrizio Mattei and Danny Omich are the A&R of Metropolitan Recordings. They also have two sub-labels: Cut Rec and Taste of Honey. Cut is specialized in old school vibes, from Nu-Disco to Garage sounds, while Taste of Honey is more deep and electronic. Patrizio and Danny also work for one of the best dance radios in Italy – M2O Radio (with about 2 million listeners daily).

How is the music industry doing in Italy?

The underground music scene has gone down a lot recently, and there are several reasons for this. Currently, there is a massive old-school music revival. The revival has been very profitable for us – we have made good money, but unfortunately not in the Italian market. Eighty percent of Metropolitan’s profits are generated abroad. Italian record labels do not export much, they mostly import music – in this way, dependency grows and very few innovative ideas arise. However, we believe that the situation will get better and better in the future.

What distinguishes Metropolitan Recordings from other labels?

Metropolitan is mostly a brand. We organize parties, have our clothing brand, our radio show etc. However, everything revolves around the most important thing for us – our music.
