The reading sample not only gives the reader a first impression of the content of your book, but they also get an impression of your writing style.
The reader also gets to know some of the protagonists and is immersed in the world in which they find themselves.
Here are some tips on how to get the most out of your sample:
How long should my reading sample be?
About 20 pages. This will give your readers enough knowledge to keep them interested without revealing the whole story.
Which part of my book should be shown?
It is best to show the first 2 chapters. If your book has pictures or illustrations, you are equally welcome to present these in the reading sample.
Additional tips:
If your book contains voucher codes or similar, avoid this excerpt. Also avoid plot twists (unexpected turns in your story).
