More and more musicians use Instagram to promote their releases – Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pharrel Williams, and many other big-name artists have their own Instagram account with million followers.
Music has slowly taken off on the platform and now 25% of the most followed accounts are music-related. Instagram has also recently unveiled @music, its official music-related account featuring musicians and bands.
Instagram’s team of developers is continuously coming up with updates and new features – the latest one is ‘Instagram Stories’.
How can you create your own Instagram Stories?
Tap on the plus button on the top left-hand side of your home-screen or swipe left in your feed. Tap the circle button at the bottom of your screen to take photos or tap and hold to make a video. The maximum length of a video is 10 seconds.
With Instagram Stories, you can reach a wider target group as the function is part of Instagram’s explore tab, which is used by 100 million users daily. In this way, you can really expand your audience.
Instagram Stories are also shown in a bar at the top of your Instagram feed. The length of your story is very important – if it is too long, none of your followers will watch it to completion. There are no specific rules to follow, but if you check the number of views per story, you can find out more about audience retention and realize how long your story should be.
The good thing is that you can use different formats to create your story, such as videos, photos and other types of content (e.g. Boomerang or Layout). Be creative – you have to get your followers’ attention!
Frequency is another deciding factor. The more you post, the better your stories stand on Instagram.
You can also upload pics from your camera roll to create your stories. After taking or uploading a picture, you can edit it adding an emoji or a text.
This is important for you as an artist – your followers can send you a message directly from your story and start a conversation. In this way, you have the possibility to interact with your followers.
