Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website where users can post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Are you looking for a new way to market your music? We’ve got you covered. Read further and learn how to use Tumblr daily to promote your songs and gain new fans.
Needless to say, first you have to register an account with Tumblr – if you do not have one already. You can sign up here. When you choose your username, you’d better choose one that is close to your artist name or your band name. Why? Because this makes it easier for your fans to find you on Tumblr and for purposes related to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
On Tumblr, you can create pages for your blog. In addition to Tumblr’s default pages, you should add an “About Us” page. Here you can write your bio and post links to your website, to your social media profiles or to your YouTube channel, so that your followers can listen to your music.
After setting up your page, you need to attract traffic. How?
– Following other Tumblr users. The people you follow will be notified of a new follower, and some of them will visit your profile and then maybe your website and YouTube channel. Follow bands and artists who make similar music to your own. Also, search for posts related to these musicians and follow people who post about them. Do not forget to “re-blog” – share other people’s posts.
– Liking other users’ posts. Similarly, if you like other users’ posts, they will get an email notifying them of new likes.
– Use the ask/submit feature. The Ask feature allows you to send a private message to another Tumblr user, while through the Submit feature, you can send content. With this said, you can get your music and profile seen by many other users.
Respond to every message you receive. Start conversations with people who reach out to you is an excellent way to show commitment to your fans.
Post frequently, at least once a day. No time for that? No problem, on Tumblr, you can queue up to 300 posts for posting at a later date. You can set the posting frequency directly from the Dashboard.
Be creative. Do you see the toolbar saying Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio, and Video? You do, right? Well, make the most out of it and create original content for your blog. Hashtag your posts and customize your profile by clicking on “Settings” in the dropdown menu where you can edit appearance and theme of your profile.
